In The Pirate Cruncher, a so called fiddler leads the cut throat crew on a dangerous adventure for a chest of priceless jewels! But do they have a clue what lurks under and in the water of the mysterious waves of the deep dark seas? The pirate cruncher is a entertaining story for all ages with added humour and lots of rhyme.  Look closely at the pictures for clues to the fiddler, cut throat crew and pirate cruncher.

The pirate cruncher will teach you a lesson, don’t feel greed for what you don’t need! This tactical tale will twist from bad to good, back and forth, from Port Royal across the seas to a treasured island. Nothing stays still, nothings predictable so watch out a monster about!

In Port Royal all is well for a while until...? Go find out!

Jonny Duddle not only is the author he also illustrates the clue giving pictures! All I can say is don’t expect what you expect! Enjoy!

I loved this book!  A great adventure story with a rather grisly ending.  I really liked the way that part of the story was told through the song of the old fiddler and other parts through the speech bubbles.  The pictures are detailed and tell their own twist in the story, and I loved the fold out page which reveals the truth about the island!  The only thing that could improve this book would be including the music for the fiddler's song.  A wonderful picture book that would appeal to a wide age range.

The Pirate-Cruncher was immediately appealing with its bright, enjoyable cover.

The pages were wonderfully illustrated with plenty to look at – not sparse, single drawings that can be found in other children’s books. The actual story was wrought with adventure that is sure to please many. I thought the rhyming language throughout was brilliantly written, making the story more exciting and accessible for children. Hidden meanings were a pleasure to discover – lessons learned in a way that doesn’t make it feel forced or condescending.

A perfect companion for the book was the audio CD. This was wonderful to listen to; either on its own or while you turn the pages of the book. Narrated by the author, Duddle enchants his listeners with fun, swashbuckling voices, (a different one for each character – very enjoyable!)  squawking parrots and singing fiddler’s. A bell helpfully sounds, letting the reader know when to turn the page. The accompanying music also deserves a mention as it places you on the deck of the pirate ship!

What is sure to become a household name, Jonny Duddle hits the mark with The Pirate-Cruncher and I look forward to more by him. It was a fun, exciting read that kept my three year old very entertained! An absolute delight.

I like this book because the story is fun and, the pictures are brilliant. Some are calm, for instance the street scene at night at the beginning and some illustrations are full of life and movement, for example the waves.
